The 17th IALA Conference – Aids to Navigation – A global approach, all waters, all risks, all solutions – was held from March 22 - 27, 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa, co-hosted by Transnet. The conference was attended by 409 delegates, plus many staff from the host country. The delegates represented 59 countries, of which 45 were IALA national members.
The conference provided an opportunity for presentations and discussions on issues ranging from the concept of virtual aids to navigation through risk assessment and management to the application of future technologies. An excellent exhibition was included, with 36 industrial members providing an opportunity to view the latest developments in aids to navigation technology.
The Conference identified 18 conclusions and 18 recommendations.
